PIC Youth Employment
PIC Summer Internships Program
Each summer, the PIC collaborates with the City of Boston, Boston Public Schools, and local private sector employers to participate in the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program. Boston high school students are placed in employer-paid jobs or internships at over 200 private sector companies and institutions across key industries in Boston, including healthcare, financial services, life sciences, technology, architecture, and law.
Schedule: July – August, 6 – 7 weeks, Monday – Friday
Hours: 25 – 40 hours per week (schedules vary by employer)
Wage: $15 – $18 per hour (wages vary by employer)
Program Eligibility:
- Must be a 9th-12th grader at a Boston Public School
- Must be 16 years old by July 1, 2025 (Some hospital internships require you to be 16 by May 1, 2025)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States

Healthcare is a major industry in Boston, with one in every five jobs in the city related to this field! As a high school intern in healthcare, you’ll gain valuable experience working in a hospital environment. While you might not interact directly with patients, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a variety of dynamic and interesting departments.

PIC Community-Based Jobs (CBO) Program
PIC Community-Based Jobs (CBO) Program:
In partnership with the City of Boston, the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) teams up with over 85 community organizations and public agencies to offer subsidized jobs and internships to Boston Public Schools high school students.
These paid work experiences, located in familiar community settings across the city, help interns develop professional skills while providing extra income for their families.
Additionally, the CBO program serves as a valuable stepping stone for students aiming to secure private sector internships in the following summer.
A PIC Career Specialist will place students at one of our community-based organizations (CBOs), where they will work part-time during the school year. Additionally, students are required to complete six paid Work Readiness Activities.
Schedule: October – May, After School (Some CBOs may offer work during school breaks and weekends)
Hours: 10-15 hours per week (schedules vary by CBO)
Wage: $15 per hour
PIC CBO Program Eligibility:
- Must be 15 years old
- Must attend a Boston Public High School
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
A PIC Career Specialist will place students at one of our community-based organizations (CBOs) for full-time summer employment. Students are also required to attend PIC’s summer orientation and participate in work readiness activities throughout the program.
Schedule: July – August, 6-7 weeks, Monday-Friday (Some CBOs may require weekend work)
Hours: 25-30 hours per week (schedules vary by CBO)
Wage: $15 per hour
