The Food Project:

At the Food Project, they believe everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. Their mission is to transform the food system into a more equitable, community-focused model that promotes food security for all while fostering connections among diverse communities and the land.

The Food Project’s Mission:

The Food Project’s mission is to cultivate a thoughtful and productive community of youth and adults from diverse backgrounds who collaborate to build a sustainable food system. They produce healthy food for city and suburban residents, offer leadership opportunities for youth, and inspire others to create change in their own communities.

The Food Project’s Vision:

The Food Project envisions a world where youth are engaged leaders, diverse communities are connected to each other and the land, and everyone has access to fresh, local, healthy, and affordable food.

The Food Project’s acclaimed leadership program integrates architecture, enterprise, and community service to provide comprehensive hands-on experience. Through participation in Seed Crew (summer), Dirt Crew (academic season), and Root Crew (year-round), young people develop the skills and knowledge necessary to lead within their communities. Each year, 140 teenagers from Greater Boston and the North Shore of Eastern Massachusetts engage in cultivating urban and suburban land managed by the Food Project. They take part in workshops, volunteer at local hunger relief organizations, guide volunteers on the farms, construct raised bed gardens, and collaborate with the community to explore innovative methods of enhancing food access.

At the Food Project, youth serve as dedicated and influential change-makers. They unite a diverse group of young people, spanning racial, socio-economic, gender identity, and geographic backgrounds, to work alongside adults in creating a more equitable food system for all.
