Bunker Hill Community College:
Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is the largest community college in Massachusetts, enrolling over 16,000 students annually across its Charlestown and Chelsea campuses, along with instructional centers in Greater Boston. Established in 1973, BHCC offers diverse learning formats, including day, evening, hybrid, and online courses.
As an affordable institution, BHCC provides over 100 academic programs, including associate degrees, certificates, and transfer options to four-year universities.
In addition to traditional programs, BHCC offers non-credit courses and corporate training through its Division of Workforce and Economic Development.
The Training Opportunities Program (TOP) enables you to continue receiving unemployment benefits while participating in full-time approved training to acquire new job skills. If you need to develop new skills to secure reemployment, you may qualify for TOP. To enroll, submit a completed application to the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA). If approved, TOP allows DUA to waive the requirement for active job search, letting you receive unemployment benefits while undergoing DUA-approved training. Additionally, TOP can extend your benefits for up to 26 weeks if your training exceeds the length of your initial unemployment claim. Please note that DUA does not cover training costs. To apply for an extension of unemployment benefits, students must be enrolled in a Certificate or Associate degree program. Obtain an application by contacting the TOP Unit at 617-626-5375 (formerly known as Section 30).
Eligibility Requirements: Enrollment in at least 12 credits per semester or 20 clock hours of non-credit training, high school diploma or GED required. Bunker Hill Community College, Mass General Brigham, and Project Hope Boston have teamed up to offer FOUR programs, currently available at NO cost to Boston residents. Funded by the City of Boston’s Worker Empowerment–Life Sciences Workforce Development Initiative grant, these programs kick off in the spring and fall of 2025, paving the way for you to enter the field of Medical Laboratory Science!
Phlebotomy Certificate: This program equips you with the skills needed to collect blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis. It covers essential topics such as processes and procedures, safety protocols, quality assurance, venipuncture techniques, terminology, and relevant anatomy physiology. The course is delivered in a hybrid format, combining remote learning through pre-recorded and live webinars with in-person lab sessions. The online component spans approximately 90 hours, with most students completing the certification within 8-16 weeks. Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate: The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Certificate program trains individuals to support laboratory operations by assisting with patient sample processing and test preparation. MLAs are crucial in ensuring that laboratory functions run smoothly, supporting medical technologists in their tasks. Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, processing specimens, preparing tests for technologists, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and managing Laboratory Information System (LIS). Medical Laboratory Technician Associate in Science: This program equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to become Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technicians through a combination of lectures, hands-on laboratory activities, and clinical experience in hospital settings. Students will learn to perform diagnostic tests that support disease diagnosis, treatment, and health maintenance. This hybrid program spans two years, equivalent to four semesters, and is conducted at the Charlestown Campus. It is offered once a year, starting each fall semester. Medical Laboratory Science (Mass General Brigham): The Mass General Brigham Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Training Program is designed to prepare students for a career in the evolving field of laboratory medicine. This program offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes hands-on instruction, onsite clinical training, and online learning. Students will gain practical experience under the guidance of expert laboratory professionals from Mass General Brigham Clinical Laboratories. This full-time Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program runs Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM, over a 10-month period. Unemployed? Access FREE Career Training. If you’re unemployed, underemployed, working fewer than 20 hours a week, or meet federal poverty guidelines, you may be eligible for free training. This opportunity is also available for those new to the workforce, including recent high school graduates, individuals who have never worked before, and new immigrants authorized to work in the U.S. To express your interest in the program, please contact Lateia Johnson at lmjo8989@bhcc.edu or 617-228-3361. She will review your eligibility and schedule an admissions appointment to complete the enrollment process.
Note: EMT and CNA programs do not require an admissions appointment but do need assisted course enrollment.
Program Benefits: Participants receive free tuition, including books, fees, and materials for the spring term. Additionally benefits include career coaching, work experience, job placement assistance, job support, and travel vouchers.

Programs:
Pharmacy Technician: Prepares students to work in teams supervised by a pharmacist to prepare prescriptions and provide inventory control, record keeping, and drug packaging. Students learn Pharmacy Operations, Pharmaceutical Calculations, Pharmacology, and Pharmacy Law.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): Introduction to emergency care; the well-being of the EMT; medical, legal, and ethical issues; anatomy and physiology; pathophysiology; patient history and assessment; vital signs; Health Care Provider CPR and operation of the Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator (SAED); airway management and assessing emergency scenes; basic pharmacology; management/treatment of respiratory, cardiovascular, and diabetic emergencies.
Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA): Prepares students to support nursing staff in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and rehabilitation clinics by providing basic care for patients (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and oral care).

YMCA Training Inc. is offering a free in-person program designed to equip participants with the skills needed for success in the property management field. This 10-week course prepares individuals for administrative roles in property management. Participants will gain knowledge in property management terminology, best practices for resident customer service, rent calculations, and housing recertification processes. The program includes on-site learning and job shadowing opportunities at local property management offices. Trainees will be prepared to complete the 3-day Certified Professional of Occupancy (CPO) Training and Certification exam, administered by the New England Affordable Housing Management Association. Upon completion, trainees will be connected with property management employers for additional job shadowing and potential full-time job opportunities. This 16-week Medical Administrative Assistant training program equips participants with the skills needed for general registration and front desk administrative support. NECAT Culinary Arts Training:

International Institute of New England:
At the heart of all programs at IINE is their long-term vision that refugees and immigrants can achieve their dreams and contribute to the growth and prosperity of New England.

Today, the International Institute of New England provides humanitarian relief, English language instruction, employment services, skills training, and immigration legal assistance to thousands of individuals from over 60 different countries.
IINE’s Ready, Set, Service! Training Program equips students with the skills needed for customer service roles in dynamic and growing industries like hotels, restaurants, and healthcare. This seven-week program covers essential topics including financial literacy, job readiness, resume and cover letter writing, and interview techniques.
Participants will also attend networking workshops and receive ongoing support for job search and placement. The training will be tailored to align with students’ career interests.
Course Details:
Duration: 7 weeks with 5 weeks of online instruction and 2 weeks of in-person classes
Schedule: 3 hours per day (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM), 5 days a week (Monday-Friday)
Location: In-person sessions are held at IINE’s Boston office, 2 Boylston Street
Certifications: Includes OSHA and CPR certification, as well as financial literacy training
Post-Training Support: Weekly 1-hour sessions with IINE staff for job search and preparation assistance

The Northeast Advanced Manufacturing Consortium (NAMC):
NAMC has established itself as the premier resource for training jobseekers and current workers in the skills that advanced manufacturers in northeastern Massachusetts value.
The Northeast Advanced Manufacturing Consortium (NAMC) began as an imitative among four workforce investment board directors, aiming to forge a partnership between industry, academia, and workforce development to ensure ongoing support for manufacturing in the region. Northeast manufacturers are world-class companies’ integral to the state’s innovation economy. With a rich history in manufacturing, they advocate for a vibrant advanced manufacturing sector. They have united a coalition of private and public entities to pool resources and create programs that align with their goals. NAMC also engages in youth outreach to foster interest in manufacturing careers and develop relevant training programs.
The NAMC Electromechanical Assembly Training Program typically range from 200 to 300 hours and are designed to produce IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 certified assemblers, solderers, and inspectors for the electronics industry.
Students will gain skills in using assembly hand tools, reading prints, measuring, torquing, and working with micrometers, oscilloscopes, wire harnesses, and various termination methods, including crimping, pins, lugs, extractors, and connectors. They will also learn basic electrical theory and conduct hands-on labs covering current conductance, circuit continuity, temperature measurements, decibels, and electrostatics.
These training programs emphasize the proper use of mechanical assembly tools and processes, aligned with industry standards in electromechanical assembly. Students will acquire foundational knowledge of electronics, understand the manufacturing process, learn workplace safety practices, and earn an OSHA 10-hour General Safety certification. They will also study mechanical assembly and be prepared to obtain IPC 610 and IPC-J-STD-001 certifications. Graduates will be ready for entry-level positions as Electromechanical Assembly Technicians in various companies.
Overview of an Electromechanical Assembler:
An electromechanical assembler is responsible for assembling electromechanical equipment and devices. Their daily tasks include operating, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and calibrating electronic equipment. Responsibilities involve reading blueprints, interpreting instructions, ordering necessary parts, assembling components, inspecting for defects, soldering electronic parts, ensuring accurate dimensions, and testing for mechanical reliability.

Program Description: The NAMC CNC Machine Operator training program offers a comprehensive pre-employment introduction to precision machining. This program spans 250-300 hours and includes:
Hands-On Technical Training: Practical experience in operating CNC machines
Shop Math: Essential mathematical skills for machining tasks
Metrology and Inspection: Techniques for measuring and inspecting machined parts
Blueprint Reading: Understanding technical drawings and specifications
OSHA 10 General Safety: Basic safety training for the workplace
Graduates will be well-equipped for entry-level positions such as CNC Machine Operator, Quality Control Inspector, and Manual Machinist, as well as roles in engineering and purchasing support. The program aims to provide meaningful and sustainable careers in Advanced Manufacturing, with opportunities for career advancement. Program Description: NAMC’s Welding training programs, typically lasting 300 hours, provide extensive instruction in Gas Tungsten Arc WElding (GTAW), commonly known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding, as well as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), or MIG Welding, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). These programs address the growing demand for skilled TIG and MIG welders, as highlighted by employers and industry partners in Massachusetts’ manufacturing sector.
Graduates of NAMC’s welding programs will be well-prepared for entry-level positions across various welding disciplines. The training focuses on achieving proficiency in welding standards set by the American Welding Society (AWS). Upon completion, students will be equipped with the skills and confidence needed to secure AWS industry-recognized certification, enhancing their professional credentials and ensuring their readiness for the workforce.

City Academy:
City Academy offers training programs that prepare individuals for careers as Emergency Medical Technician (EMTs) and for positions requiring a Commercial Driver’s License and/or Hoisting License within the City of Boston. These city positions offer wages above Boston’s living wage (currently $17.55 per hour) and come with health benefits, union membership, and opportunities for salary increases.
Eligibility:
To qualify for free training through City Academy, you must:

The Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology also offers an 800-hour certificate program in Practical Electricity, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become successful HVAC&R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) technicians.
You can choose between a day or evening program to fit your schedule. The program has start dates in September and January. The fall session runs from September to May (9 months total), while the spring session lasts from January to August (8 months).
Today’s HVAC&R technicians are required to be EPA certified. This program includes test preparation for the EPA certification, as well as the opportunity to earn a R-410A certificate and a 10-hour OSHA Safety certificate upon successful completion. This certificate program fulfills state requirements for 2,000 hours towards the 6,000 field hours necessary to qualify for the Refrigeration Technician exam.

Franklin Cummings Tech offers a 12-month Certificate of Proficiency in Practical Electricity, designed for beginners with no formal training in electrical theory or code. This hands-on course covers the fundamentals of carpentry, plumbing, painting, electricity, and essential job skills. Additionally, the curriculum includes a focus on energy efficiency and weatherization. Classes are held at our Innovation Center int he early evenings, twice a week, with starting salaries ranging from $20 to $28 per hours.

The Weatherization Training Program is an intensive, hands-on initiative held at the Asian American Civic Association Innovation Center. Courses are taught by certified instructors and run from 8 AM to 4 PM, reflecting a typical work schedule. Participants will learn essential skills in insulation and air sealing, which are in high demand. Graduates can advance to positions such as crew chief. The program also offers support with resume writing and job placement assistance.
Description: The Weatherization program focuses on air sealing, insulation, moisture control, and ventilation. It enhances energy efficiency in buildings, leading to reduced energy costs while ensuring health and safety. With over 16,000 new jobs projected in Weatherization, it’s a rapidly growing clean energy industry!
Entry-level positions require no prior experience and offer pay up to $25/hour. Advanced roles, such as Crew Chief and Supervisor, can earn up to $120,000 annually.
This program also serves as a pre-apprenticeship, connecting graduates with apprenticeship opportunities through employer partners.

-Program components include hands-on culinary skills training in a professional hotel kitchen, SerySafe Food Handler and MA Allergens certification, professionalism, resume writing, interview practice, customer service, job readiness, technology skills, and communication
-Each student receives one-on-one career coaching, job placements, and job retention services
To participate in the Culinary Training Program, you must:
-Have kitchen work experience
-Be looking for a full-time union line-cook job
