BCYF Leahy Holloran Community Center - Program Assistant

The Program Assistant will aid the LHCC staff in the daily operations of the community center.

Organization Description: The BCYF Leahy Holloran Community Center, situated within the Richard J. Murphy School, operates as a non-profit organization catering to the diverse needs of Boston’s youth and families. Since the early 1970s, LHCC has been providing essential community programming and resources during non-school hours, primarily serving Dorchester residents while welcoming members from across the City. With a mission to enhance residents’ quality of life, BCYF partners with various organizations to offer comprehensive programs tailored to neighborhood interest, spanning ages from 6-18.

Duties & Responsibilities: Set up and breakdown of areas; Assist with supervision of participants in school-based or recreation-based programs or activities such as afterschool programming, STEM, computers, homework help, and coaching/mentoring flag football and basketball; Provide front desk/lobby coverage, answering calls, filing, mailings, and cleaning and organizing the facility.

Qualifications: They are looking to hire teens who are outgoing, energetic, friendly, patient, and enjoy working with children. Youth must have a positive attitude, willingness to work, and act as a role model for participants. Effective communication with participants, colleagues, and supervisors is essential. In partnership with the City of Boston, the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) team sup with over 85 community organizations and public agencies to offer subsidized jobs and internships to Boston Public Schools high school students. These paid work experiences, located in familiar community settings across the city, help interns develop professional skills while providing extra income for their families. Additionally, the CBO program serves as a valuable steppingstone for students aiming to secure private sector internships in the following summer.

School Year CBO Program

A PIC Career Specialist will place students at one of their community-based organizations (CBOs) where they will work part-time during the school year. Additionally, students are required to complete six paid Work Readiness Activities.

Artists For Humanity (AFH) harnesses the power of mentorship and paid professional experiences to inspire teens as they shape their futures.

AFH offers a safe and supportive environment where teens can explore their voices and carve out their unique paths to success. Our participants rise above economic, racial, and social barriers to transform communities through creative expression.

While at AFH, teens express themselves through public art, where their creativity is celebrated. In partnership with businesses, AFH teens provide creative services under the guidance of studio mentors, gaining valuable insights into business and entrepreneurship for future career opportunities. Through mentorship, the next generation of artists and leaders builds confidence in their own abilities.

Artists for Humanity Youth Art Enterprise

Artists for Humanity is excited to offer an amazing opportunity for Boston teens aged 14-18 to join one of their seven creative studios. Whether you’re interested in 3D Design Animation, Creative Tech, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, or Video, they invite you to apply. In this program, you’ll work in a dynamic studio environment, exploring various fine art and design mediums. You’ll collaborate with professional artists and designers, develop new skills, and provide creative services with AFH’s clients. While prior artistic experience isn’t required, a strong passion for creativity and a willingness to learn and earn on the job are essential.

To Qualify for a Position at AFH, you must: Be a high school student or at least 14 years old; Be enrolled in and regularly attending a Boston Public High School or be a Boston resident (including those in night, day, homeschool, or GED programs); Be available to work during the program’s regular hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 3-6 PM during the school year; Monday-Thursday from 11am-6pm during the summer; complete an unpaid 36-hour apprenticeship in their foundation Studio to learn the basics of fine art and digital media, which will build your resume and count as community service hours toward high school graduation, before becoming a paid employee
