Find Trained Workers
New England Center for Arts & Technology (NECAT):
Employer Partners: NECAT collaborates closely with a select group of vetted employer partners who offer well-paying jobs (often with benefits) and are willing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support the long-term success of NECAT graduates placed with them. They seek employer partners offering a variety of job types and schedules to match each graduate’s needs. NECAT organizes on-site job fairs where graduating students present their resumes and interview with potential employers. Many students secure stages or receive job offers immediately at these events.
Partners & Employers:
BHCC students bring valuable experience to employers. Although many students enter BHCC directly from high school, the average age is 26. Many have substantial work and life experiences and are seeking to transition into new fields. Along with their diverse work backgrounds, BHCC students offer cultural strengths and a variety of perspectives. Combined with the academic preparation they receive at BHCC, they contribute meaningfully to their workplaces on multiple levels.
Post Jobs & Internships
Employers are encouraged to post opportunities – from internships to part-time and full-time positions – on Handshake, BHCC’s online recruitment platform. Handshake is free to use and accessible to current BHCC students and alumni. Please note that to earn academic credit, students must complete 150 hours of internship work, and the internship must be relevant to their degree program.
The Bunker Hill Apprenticeship Operator Hub: The Bunker Hill Apprenticeship Operator Hub will act as a central resource for the hospitality, early childhood education, and technical sectors, addressing the workforce needs of employers in Greater Boston and the northeastern region of Massachusetts. These sectors are vital for workforce development and are in high demand for skilled workers. The Hub aims to fulfill the state’s need to broaden, diversify, and improve apprenticeship programs by offering a coordinated approach to achieving both degree and non-degree industry-recognized credentials. The Hub will be situated on the Charlestown Campus.
The Apprenticeship Hub complies with the Massachusetts Division of Apprentice Standards for all Registered Apprenticeships.
Be Mass Competitive Partnership: The Massachusetts Association of Community Colleges (MACC), in collaboration with the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership (MACP), is excited to continue the “Be Mass Competitive” Program. This workforce development initiative aims to generate job opportunities at major businesses across the Commonwealth, addressing labor shortages in Massachusetts and enhancing access to upwardly mobile career prospects.
BHCC is looking for employers willing to invest in their future workforce by supporting the Be Mass Competitive Program. If interested, please contact Kristen P. McKenna at kpmckenn@bhcc.edu.
Training for Current Workers
The Express Program offers employers in Massachusetts a streamlined way to access grant-funded training, enabling businesses to swiftly address emerging needs. The Express Program is designed for rapid response to change and to keep employees engaged. With its bite-sized grants for immediate training needs and no waiting periods between grants, Express offers the quickest route to funding, featuring a flexible training directly and 6 simple steps to success.
Workplace ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is a key priority for the Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP). WTFP can assist your business in initiating or maintaining on-the-job ESOL classes, enhancing both employee performance and overall company productivity.
The General Program ESOL Bridge Grant mirrors the application requirements and structure of the two-year General Program grant but is specifically designed to support your organization’s efforts in upskilling your ESOL workforce within a one-year timeframe.
In addition to the WTFP Program grants, WTFP occasionally offers extra resources for technical assistance. These grants are limited and may not be applicable to most Massachusetts employers.
On-the-Job Training supports employers throughout every phase of the On-the-Job Training (OJT) process, including:
- Applicant Selection: They provide you with candidates who possess a diverse range of skills and experiences. Their qualified staff pre-interview and assess candidates to ensure they match your job requirements, though you are not obligated to hire the candidates they refer.
- Training Plan Development: They assist you in creating a training plan tailored to your needs.
- OJT Guidance: They offer support throughout the OJT process to help ensure its success.
Steps to Get Started:
- Contact a Career Center: Reach out to a nearby Career Center for information on on-the-job training (OJT) and to assess your company’s eligibility.
- Meet with a Representative: Arrange a meeting with a Career Center Representative at your business to learn more about OJT and discuss your company’s needs.
- Discuss OJT Opportunities: Talk with your Career Center Representative about the types of OJT Trainees you need. They will help you find pre-screened candidates who meet your criteria.
- Hire and Train: Employ the OJT Trainee according to your hiring process. You will train them using your equipment and methods. Your Career Center Representative will help you design a training plan to ensure effective training.
- Submit Documentation: Provide payroll records and monthly evaluations to the Career Center to receive reimbursement for a portion of the trainee’s wages during the training period. Your Career Center Representative will guide you through the process.
- Offer Permanent Employment: Upon successful completion of the training, provide permanent employment to the trainee.
Employer Responsibilities:
To participate in On-the-Job Training, employers must:
- Page Wages and Benefits: Ensure that trainees receive wages and benefits comparable to other employees with similar roles and experience. OJT trainees are subject to your company’s policies.
- Commit to Continued Employment: Agree to retain the trainee as a permanent employee upon successful completion of the training.
- Provide Comprehensive Training: Conduct training at your location, using your equipment, and according to your guidelines. The training duration will depend on the job description and the trainee’s skill gaps.
- Submit Evaluation and Payroll Records: Provide trainee evaluations and payroll records to the Career Center for wage reimbursement.
Benefits of On-the-Job Training:
The On-the-Job (OJT) Program helps offset the cost of hiring and training new employees. Funded through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and administered by MassHire Career Centers, OJT offers several advantages:
Employer Benefits:
- Reduced Hiring and Training Costs: Lower your expenses for hiring and training new employees.
- Pre-Screened Applicants: Receive candidates who have been pre-screened to fit your needs, giving you the final hiring decision.
- Wage Reimbursement: Get reimbursed for a percentage of the trainee’s wages during the agreed training period. The reimbursement rate depends on your business size.
Employers are increasingly finding value in a new kind of worker through apprenticeships. These programs are an excellent method for cultivating a dedicated, skilled workforce. Start today and discover the benefits of Registered Apprenticeships.
When you choose to become an employer-sponsor, the Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS) will support you throughout the entire process. From establishing program standards to apply for grants, you have a team to assist you every step of the way.
